Esuberanti e graffianti sculture in bronzo ed argilla, sono le opere dell’artista londinese Rebecca Warren, classe 1965, figure scultoree che cambiano costantemente forma e spaziano in un universo visivo che parte dall’amorfo fino a toccare forme riconoscibili e sessualmente esplicite che riescono ad unire il formale al grottesco. L’artista stessa parlando del suo lavoro afferma: “penso che il mio lavoro si evolva attraverso un processo di appropriazione e riferimenti, non è un processo didattico ma un percorso di rivelazione e scoperta”.
Famose sono anche le sue vetrine contenenti oggetti accuratamente assemblati che l’artista colleziona nel corso della sua vita, giocando con le idee e con il valore reale delle cose l’artista riesce a regalare un’ aura museale ad oggetti e materiali che non avrebbero senso artistico nella vita di tutti i giorni. Apostrofata come artista originale dal talento formidabile, Rebecca Warren riesce a combinare le influenze artistiche del passato con quelle contemporanee. L’artista sfida le convenzioni scultoree e si confronta con figure storiche quali Edgar Degas e August Roden, maestri cui il lavoro della Warren costantemente fa riferimento, e ancora Lucio Fontana ed Alberto Giacometti, senza negare le influenze di artisti più contemporanei quali Fischli/Weiss, Charles Ray ed anche il fumettista R. Crumb.
L’artista è stata nominato per il Turner Prize nel 2006 ed attualmente occupa la cattedra come docente presso la Kunstakademie di Düsseldorf, Ad influenzare tutta le sue opere, letteratura, psicologia, cultura pop e della storia dell’arte.
