Non penseremmo mai che l’arte possa nascere da oggetti di uso comune, anche se, dopo la beneamata “fontana” di Duchamp, saremmo degli sciocchi a stupirci tanto. Gary Hovey ha trovato il modo di brevettare sculture di grande realismo attraverso l’utilizzo e la fusione di forchette, cucchiai e coltelli. Visti da una certa distanza non si riuscirebbe nemmeno a capire che si tratta di questi semplici e quotidiani oggetti. Soltanto avvicinandoci noteremmo come la combinazione di manici, fusi insieme e posizionati nei modi più disparati, possa formare figure tanto dettagliate.
Trae la sua ispirazione da John Kearney che, nel 1987, aveva realizzato una mostra animata da sculture realizzate con i paraurti della automobili, rendendo chiaro che l’arte, per essere fruibile e colpire lo spettatore, non necessita affatto di eclatanti ghirigori.
Quasi quindici anni dopo, precisamente nel 2004, Gery Hovey inizia a studiare i modi per realizzare, principalmente animali, con gli utensili. E non si ferma a questo! Vi crea intorno una storia semplice, come un gatto che agguanta un topo, un cane che corre, esplica un movimento.
Il suo interesse è curare i dettagli, ma anche divertire il pubblico attraverso un nuovo modo di fare arte. L’acciaio crea giochi di luce nell’ambiente e il fatto che si tratti semplicemente di forchette spinge a far riflettere sull’immediatezza dell’atto creativo. L’arte è nelle case, è per la gente comune ed è realizzabile pressapoco con qualunque cosa!
We never think that art can born from common objects, though, after the beloved “fountain” of Duchamp, we would be foolish to surprise us so much. Gary Hovey has found the way to patent sculptures of great realism through the use and merger of forks, spoons and knives. Is not simple understand immediatly that are everyday objects, only approaching is possible to notice how the combination of handles, fused together and positioned in various ways, can create sculptures in such detail.
Harvey draws his inspiration from John Kearney who, in 1987, has made a show of animated sculptures made with the bumpers of the car, showing it clear that art, for hit the viewer, does not need of something great.
Almost fifteen years later, precisely in 2004, Gery Hovey began to explore different ways to achieve his idea of art, creating mainly animals, with the use of kitchen tools. But he has made something more, he creates simple stories, like a cat grabs a mouse, a dog which runs and many others.
His interest is to show in the best way every detail, but also entertain the audience through a new way of making art. The steel creates plays of light in the environment and the fact that it is simply forks pushes to make to reflect on the immediacy of the creative act. Art is in the home, is for ordinary people and can be made pretty much with anything!
